Word Origin & Etymology
Borrowed in the late 15th century from Middle French convalescence, from Late Latin convalescentia, derived from the Latin verb convalescere ('to regain health or grow strong'), from com- (intensive prefix) and valescere ('to begin to grow strong', from valere 'to be strong or well').
