An Anagram Word Finder Built for Exact Permutations and Sub-Words
Our free anagram solver and anagram generator takes any rack of up to 15 letters and maps every valid permutation against tournament and game lexicons. Full-length anagrams appear at the top so cryptic crossword solvers and puzzle players can spot exact matches first, followed by shorter sub-words grouped by character length.
Unlike basic alphabetical sorters, this anagram finder calculates exact point values for North American NASPA (NWL), International (CSW), and Words With Friends (ENABLE) dictionaries. Use starting, ending, and contained letter filters to lock onto open hooks on a crowded board.
What Our Anagram Decoder Delivers
Different word puzzles enforce different dictionary rules and length requirements. Our anagram maker adapts to your exact game format:
- Up to 3 Blank Wildcards let you enter
?or spacebar characters to test zero-point blank tiles across all 26 letters. - Positional Hook Constraints filter results by prefix, suffix, contained sequence, or exact character count.
- Three Game Dictionaries separate US Scrabble (NWL), International Scrabble (CSW), and Words With Friends (ENABLE) word lists.
- One-Click Dictionary Definitions open parts of speech and meanings for any generated anagram.
How to Use the Anagram Generator & Anagram Finder
Follow three steps to generate exact-length anagrams and high-scoring sub-words from your tiles.
Enter Your Source Letters
Type up to 15 letters into the search box. Include up to 3 question marks (?) for blank tiles or unknown letters so the anagram solver tests every valid substitution.
Set Pattern & Length Rules
Use the Starts With, Ends With, Contains, and Length filters to lock onto existing board tiles or isolate full-length permutations for cryptic crossword clues.
Compare Anagrams by Score
Results are grouped from longest to shortest and ranked by standard tile point value within your chosen dictionary so 7-letter bingos and high-scoring plays stand out.
Pure Single-Word Anagrams vs. Sub-Anagrams
Knowing when you need an exact full-length permutation versus a partial sub-word helps you solve cryptic clues and tile games faster.
Uses 100% of the entered letters to form a new word of the exact same character count. Required for cryptic crossword fodder, Daily Jumble puzzles, and 7-tile tournament bingos.
Extracts every valid 2-letter to N-letter word contained inside your letter pool. Built for Scrabble, Words With Friends, and Bananagrams when board geometry limits how many tiles you can place on a single turn.
Interactive Tip
Our anagram solver calculates both at the same time. Full-length exact anagrams appear in the top group, while shorter sub-words are organized by length right below them.
What is a True Anagram?
A true anagram is a word formed by rearranging every letter of a source word exactly once. Rearranging the six letters of LISTEN produces SILENT, ENLIST, TINSEL, and INLETS.
In competitive word games and cryptic crosswords, recognizing exact-length anagram families lets you convert a single memorized alphagram into half a dozen playable words depending on which board hooks are open.
Single-word anagram pairs that share related definitions.
- EVIL ↔ VILE
- FLUSTER ↔ RESTFUL
- ANGERED ↔ ENRAGED
Anagrams that express contradictory meanings.
- DESPAIR ↔ PRAISED
- UNITED ↔ UNTIED
- STRESSED ↔ DESSERTS
Single-word sets that shift across parts of speech or concepts.
- EARTH ↔ HEART
- CINEMA ↔ ICEMAN
- ALERTING ↔ ALTERING ↔ INTEGRAL ↔ RELATING
How to Spot Full-Rack Anagrams and Cryptic Clues
Tournament players and crossword solvers use systematic letter grouping to spot hidden anagrams before the clock runs down.
Sorting a 7-tile rack into alphabetical order (its alphagram, such as AEINRST) strips away misleading phonetic habits and helps you recall memorized bingo families immediately.
Pull common suffixes like -ING, -ERS, -IER, or -EST to the right side of your rack, and prefixes like RE- or UN- to the left, leaving a compact 4-letter root to solve.
In cryptic crosswords, words like broken, confused, mixed, or wild signal that an adjacent word or phrase is anagram fodder matching the exact length shown in parentheses.
High-Probability 6- and 7-Letter Tournament Bingo Stems
Tournament players study high-probability 6-letter stems that combine with almost any seventh tile to form a 50-point bingo.
The single most productive 7-letter stem in English. It forms valid tournament bingos including NASTIER, RETAINS, STAINER, STEARIN, ANTSIER, RATINES, and RETINAS.
The 6-letter stem AEIRST combines with 23 of the 26 letters of the alphabet to form a 7-letter bingo, including ARTIEST, BAITERS, WAITERS, and IRATEST.
The 5-letter root AEPRS produces at least 10 valid 5-letter anagrams (SPARE, PEARS, PARSE, REAPS, PARES) and expands into dozens of 6- and 7-letter hooks.
