Word Origin & Etymology
Borrowed in the early 16th century from Late Latin cornucopia, a fusion of the classical Latin phrase cornu copiae ('horn of plenty'), from cornu ('horn') and copiae ('of plenty, abundance'). In classical mythology, it referred to the horn of the goat Amalthea, which nursed the infant Zeus and was endowed with the power of becoming filled with whatever its possessor wished.
