Word Origin & Etymology
From Old French talent and Latin talentum, from Ancient Greek talanton ('balance, weight, sum of money'). The modern sense of 'natural ability' developed in Middle English from the biblical Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30), in which monetary coins entrusted to servants were allegorically interpreted as God-given gifts and capacities.
