Word Origin & Etymology

Formed in Middle English as a compound of "seasick" (from Old English "sæseoc") and the noun-forming suffix "-ness". Curiously, our modern medical term "nausea" shares the exact same conceptual origin, deriving from the Ancient Greek word "naus" meaning "ship".
