In Greek mythology, a monstrous hybrid creature with the head and tail of a bull and the body of a man, confined by King Minos of Crete within a vast labyrinth until slain by the Athenian hero Theseus; in modern fantasy, any member of a fictional race of similar bull-headed humanoid beings.
Example
"In the classical myth, Ariadne gave Theseus a ball of thread so he could find his way out of the labyrinth after confronting the Minotaur."
Word Origin & Etymology
Borrowed from Old French Minotaure and Latin Minotaurus, from Ancient Greek Minotauros (literally 'the Bull of Minos'), combining the name of the legendary Cretan king Minos with tauros ('bull').
