Word Origin & Etymology
The plant is named 'Japanese' due to its native region in East Asia (including China and Korea). The genus 'Kerria' was named by Swiss botanist Augustin Pyramus de Candolle in honor of William Kerr, a Scottish gardener who introduced the cultivar 'Pleniflora' to Kew Gardens in 1804.
