Word Origin & Etymology
Borrowed in the late 17th century from French intrépide or directly from Latin intrepidus ('unshaken, undaunted'), formed from the privative prefix in- ('not') and trepidus ('alarmed, anxious, trembling'), which also gives English the word 'trepidation'.
