Word Origin & Etymology
Formed from the adjective frantic plus the adverbial suffix -ally. Frantic derives from Old French frenetique, via Latin phreneticus from Ancient Greek phrenitikos ('suffering from inflammation of the brain or delirium'), rooted in phren ('mind' or 'diaphragm', once believed to be the seat of emotions).
